WHAT WE DO:

Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley is a literacy program for adults sponsored by the Westwood Public Library.

 

WE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING FREE SERVICES:

One on One tutoring for students with survival English needs and adults with basic reading and writing needs.  Tutoring can take place in any of the following libraries:  Westwood, Dumont, Emerson, Hillsdale, Lodi, Montvale, Paramus, Park Ridge, Ramsey, River Vale, Upper Saddle River, and Washington Township.

Classroom Instruction for Level 1 & 2 ESL students.  Classes will be held from 10:00am to 11:30am Mondays and Fridays, beginning October 1, 2007 and continuing for 10 weeks.

Conversation Groups for ESL Students in Level 3 & 4--to be scheduled

Spanish English Storytimes--coming soon

Literacy Materials a collection of materials developed especiallyf or adult new readers and for English as a Second Language students.

 

TUTOR TRAINING

Tutor training via 15 hour training sessions for ESL/ABR at the Westwood Public Library.  Tutor workshops will be held on the following dates:

WESTWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY:  In 2008, Tuesdays from 7pm to 9:30pm (Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, & Feb 26)

PARAMUS PUBLIC LIBRARY:  In 2008, Mondays from 7pm to 9:30pm (April 7, April 14, April 21, & April 28)

PARAMUS PUBLIC LIBRARY:  In 2008, Fridays from 7pm to 9:30pm     (Oct 3, Oct 10, Oct 17, Oct 24)

 

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:

Become a volunteer tutor and help adults learn to read or speak English.  Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley will train you in 15 hours of special classes.  Tutors are needed during the day and evening.  For more information about how to become a tutor or student, please call Maureen Lostumbo, Coordinator or Marge Taylor, Assistant Coordinator.
